Cienfuegos is pristine, but a little too shiny for my liking. Located on a stunning natural bay on the southern coast of Cuba, Cienfuegos's spectacular architecture has earned it a UNESCO World Heritage listing and boatloads of restoration money .... Cienfuegos is incredibly pretty, but i felt the character of the city evaporating as the Carnival cruise ship offloaded 600 Canadians, Germans and French tourists onto freshly paved streets lined with tchotchke carts selling 'handmade' leather goods and Che Guevara hats. I only spent about 3 days in the city and the real highlight was a trip out to Rancho Luna (20 minutes outside the city) with my new German friends. A winding white-sand beach with views of distant mountains gives way to clear blue water with beers delivered for $1. Definitly worth a visit!
